Rina Sherman is a researcher and film director, writer, photographer, and independent exhibition commissioner. Her pluridisciplinary fields of study derive from her studies in music, social and visual anthropology, and from these field studies in visual antropography* of culture and contemporary creation in South Africa, France, Europe, the United States and elsewhere. She has produced a series of academic, experimental and independent works.
For seven years, Rina Sherman lived with, filmed and photographed Otjiherero-speaking communities in Namibia and Angola, an experience that enabled her to build a collection of multidisciplinary archives, The Ovahimba Years. Preserved at the National Library of France, this collection is part of the Rina Sherman Fund, the collection of archives of the artist-researcher. The multimedia materials that this fund brings together are the main source for the production of the films, books and photographs of Rina Sherman.

Rina Sherman est chargée de recherche et cinéaste, écrivaine, photographe, commissaire d’expositions indépendante. Ses champs d’études multidisciplinaires découlent de ses études de musique, d’anthropologie sociale et visuelle, et de ces études de terrain en anthropographie visuelle de la culture et de la création contemporaine en Afrique Australe, en France, en Europe, aux États Unis et ailleurs. Elle a produit une série d’œuvres universitaires, expérimentales et indépendantes.
Pendant sept ans, Rina Sherman a vécu auprès de et filmé et photographié des communautés de langue Otjiherero en Namibie et en Angola, une expérience qui lui a permis de constituer une collection d’archives multidisciplinaires, « Les années Ovahimba ». Conservée à la Bibliothèque nationale de France, cette collection s’inscrit dans le Fonds Rina Sherman, l’ensemble des collections d’archives de l’artiste-chercheuse.
