De 1997 à 2004, Rina Sherman a vécu avec la famille du roi d’Etanga dans leur propriété située sur la colline oHere, à l’extérieur d’Etanga, un village de la région nord-ouest du Kunene, en Namibie. Pendant son séjour sur le terrain, elle a documenté la vie de la famille, de ses proches et de ses amis. Pendant sept ans, elle a constitué une base de données multimédia de leur vie quotidienne et rituelle sous forme de textes, de sons, de vidéos et de photographies.
En 2003, Rina Sherman a étendu ses recherches aux provinces de Cunene et Namibe, dans le sud-ouest de l’Angola, où elle a documenté la culture des peuples de langue Otjiherero, les Ovahakaona, Ovadhimba, Ovagambwe, Ovakuvale, Ovatwa… Pendant son séjour à Namibe, dans la province de Cunene en Angola, elle a réalisé une documentation photographique et vidéo exhaustive de l’art funéraire Mbali. Rina Sherman a collecté des fonds et coordonné la construction d’un centre de ressources communautaires à Etanga, qui a été achevé en 2004.
From 1997 to 2004, Rina Sherman lived with the family of the King of Etanga at their homestead on the oHere Hill, outside Etanga, a village in the north-west Kunene North region of the Namibia. During her stay, she documented the lives of her family, relatives and friends. During seven years, she created a multimedia database of their daily and ritual lives in the form of texts, sounds, videos and photographs.
In 2003, Rina Sherman extended her research to the provinces of Cunene and Namibe, in the south-west of Angola, where she documented the culture of the Otjiherero-speaking peoples, the Ovahakaona, Ovadhimba, Ovagambwe, Ovakuvale, Ovatwa… During her stay in Namibe, Cunene Province, Angola, she produced a comprehensive photographic and video documentation of the Mbali funeral art. Rina Sherman raised funds and coordinated the construction of a community resource centre in Etanga, which was completed in 2004.
