Rina Sherman est chargée de recherche, écrivaine, photographe, cinéaste et curatrice d’expositions, qui créé des ensembles d’œuvres indépendantes, expérimentales et scientifiques, réunissant la musique, la poésie, l’écriture, le cinéma, la photographie et les performances.

Les bases de sa pratique hybride, sont ses études en musique, en histoire de l’art, en anthropologie sociale et culturelle, ainsi que ses recherches au long cours en anthropographie visuelle sur la culture et la création contemporaines en Afrique du Sud, en France, en Europe, aux États-Unis, en Guyane et au-delà.

Pendant sept ans, Rina Sherman a vécu avec les communautés de langue Otjiherero de Namibie et d’Angola. Pendant ce temps, elle a créé Les années Ovahimba, un portrait de leur mode de vie à travers le cinéma, l’écriture et la photographie. Préservée à la Bibliothèque nationale de France, cette collection pluridisciplinaire fait partie du Fonds Rina Sherman Files, l’ensemble des archives multimédias de l’auteur-chercheuse, qui comprend les sources de contenu original et de recherche pour la production de ses films, livres, photographies et expositions.

Rina Sherman is a researcher, writer, photographer, filmmaker and exhibition curator who creates sets of independent, experimental, and scholarly works, bringing together music, writing, poetry, cinema, photography and performance.

The foundations of her hybrid practice are her studies in music, art history, social, cultural and visual anthropology, and her long-term research in visual antropography field research on contemporary culture and creation in Southern Africa, France, Europe, the United States, Guyana and beyond.

Rina Sherman lived with the Otjiherero-speaking communities of Namibia and Angola for seven years. During this time, she created The Ovahimba Years, a portrait of their way of life through film, writing and photography. Preserved at the National Library of France, the pluridisciplinary collection forms part of the Fonds Rina Sherman Files, the multimedia archival collections of the author-researcher, which holds the original content and research sources for the production of her films, books, photographs and exhibitions.
